2015-02-19 Server Reboot

I will be rebooting all servers tonight around 9pm CET for a security patch. Downtime should be minimal.

2016-02-07 Software Update

JIRA and Confluence have been updated and migrated to a new server. During this process plugins had to be reinstalled. If any plugins are missing or things are not working as before please send email to opensource@ncsa.illinois.edu and we will look at this ASAP.

Bitbucket has been updated to 4.3.2 and now supports LFS.

Sunday, 2015-02-07 both confluence and JIRA will be migrated to new servers. During this migration both services will be updated to the latest version. This will hopefully help with some of the slowness that sometimes happens as well give us the ability to restart individual servers instead of a reboot of all services. This will allow us to fine tune the servers for better performance for each of the services. This should however not impact NCSA Open Source and you should still be able to access the services as https://opensource.ncsa.illinois.edu/jira and https://opensouce.ncsa.illinois.edu/confluence as before.

This will upgrade JIRA to version 7.0.10 which is a major version jump, as always please let me know if anything does not work as expected. The update to Bitbucket will allow for LFS git repositories. These will be enabled for now. We will keep an eye on the disk usage to see how this impacts the resources provided. Other services that will be updated:

version : 5.10.0

NCSA password

For those that have an NCSA username and password, and the username used in opensource matches the username is NCSA kerberos, you can now request to use your NCSA password. You will need to send an email or HipChat message to Rob Kooper (kooper@illinois.edu) to enable this. Unfortunately due to issue CWD-2627 I can not enable you to login with either your NCSA password or your Opensource password. If you choose to use your NCSA password you will no longer be able to login with your opensource password.

We will update HipChat to the newest version 1.3.7 on Sunday morning (https://confluence.atlassian.com/display/HC/HipChat+Server+Release+Notes). This downtime should be only 15 minutes. All users will be disconnected and might have to relogin.

UPDATE: This update will be postponed for about two weeks to allow for further testing. During this weekend NCSA Open Source will be rebooted on Sunday morning and I will do some additional testing in the morning. During this time all services will be unavailable.

Original message, this will no longer be done:

This Sunday, 2015-01-17 both confluence and JIRA will be ugraded. During this upgrade both services will be moved to new servers that will hopefully help with some of the slowness that sometimes happens. This will allow us to fine tune the servers for better performance for each of the services. This should however not impact NCSA Open Source and you should still be able to access the services as https://opensource.ncsa.illinois.edu/jira and https://opensouce.ncsa.illinois.edu/confluence.

This will upgrade JIRA to version 7.0.5 which is a major version jump, as always please let me know if anything does not work as expected. Confluence will be updated with a minor update to version 5.9.4.

Bamboo using Java 1.8

To prepare for Bamboo requiring java 1.8 all scripts starting Bamboo have been modified to use Java 1.8. This means that Bamboo is now running under Java 1.8. An unforeseen consequence of this is that all applications that are being build using SBT, eclipse and potentially others will default to java 1.8. Please send email to opensource@ncsa.illinois.edu if this does not work and we can work on a solution (I have some snippets of code/configuration for SBT and eclipse).

Confluence Update

Confluence has been updated to a new version 5.9.1. With this a new home page became active, as well as a new sidebar. For more changes see: https://confluence.atlassian.com/doc/confluence-5-9-release-notes-785333580.html

NCSA Open Source was rebooted today at 10:15 to resolve a problem with the system not responding to SSH requests and requests to restart JIRA. All systems should be back up and running. Please let me know if you see any more issues. We are still investigating to find the cause of this issue.

Sunday October 25, 2015 NCSA Open Source will be rebooted to update the OS. During this downtime we will update Bamboo as well as Confluence.

Migration HipChat

HipChat has been migrated to a new host. This required all users to be forcefully to be logged out. Your client might complain about you being logged out. Click on the login button to get back into the server.

Looking at the cause of the restart of NCSA Open Source today (Sunday 9:30am). All services seem to be up and running again. Let us know (opensource@ncsa.illinois.edu) if something is not working.

HipChat will be down for a few hours on Sunday to be reconfigured. This will result in all users being logged out.
