Welcome!   Open source projects provide you with the means and mechanism to address inadequacies and improve a project.  As a member of an open source community you are empowered to correct any deficiency in the a project.  If you identify a deficiency in a project, the onus is on you to address the deficiency it by making recommendations, writing up the issue(s) in Jira, creating a software fix it, or correcting an error in the documentation,  etc...  Open source projects provide you with the means and mechanism to remove inadequacies in any part of the project and improve the project.

The University of Illinois/NCSA Open Source License is registered at http://www.opensource.org/licenses/UoI-NCSA.   All software on opensource.ncsa.illinois.edu has been contributed by members from sponsoring communities in collaboration with the University of Illinois and NCSA.  

Our motivation for open source allows .    

Open source allow us to:

  1. engage communities through projects to create solutions for communities Engage communities whose needs are not met by commercial-off-the-self (COTS) solutions.  These needs are diverse and range from unique solutions, customizations to the cost of running software systems over time.make software innovation more efficient by leveraging common infrastructures and state 
  2. Create innovative solutions leveraging state-of-the-art capabilities.
  3. design solutions that are extensible and can evolve with a communities needs.
  4. share art open source infrastructures and standards.
  5. Share the cost of development across multiple communities .  No so no one community is burdened with the entire cost of development.
  6. Design solutions that are extensible and can evolve with a communities needs through open architectures and clearly defined data driven interfaces.
  7. Make these solutions available to the masses through the University of Illinois / NCSA Open Source License
