Attached is the narrative and outputs / outcomes for WFF Phase V draft, as of 7/23. This has been uploaded to the grant site so Moira can review.

Walton Phase V grant portal narrative as of 2019_07_23.docx

How is this incorporated into the proposal?

  • This is separate in that it is all derived from the proposal
  • This is the NCSA workplan derived from proposal
  • There are 4 major goals from proposal
    • Dashboard for new states
    • Dashboard for sentinal sites
    • Reflect BMPs from Reid
    • GLTG going to bring all Walton Grantees together
  • Maintain and Improve Platform - doesn't fit in 4 major goals
    • expectation is this is ongoing but included so it is covered in the fees
  • Organize tasks under 4 major goals

Below are the NCSA work items we drafted.

  1. NCSA will harvest and ingest new data and, where possible, work with NGRREC to calculate loads and display on the site.
    1. Part of continuing work - especially when we have new state join
  2. NCSA will integrate additional contextual data (geospatial layers) to the platform. This requires NCSA to manipulate the identified geospatial data, upload it to geoserver and integrate it to GLTG. [do we specify layers or additional clarifiers?] I’d like to add here that the geospatial layers need to go live on the site.
    1. Geospatial layer
    2. BMP data we are going to collect from Reid
    3. Do we need to specify layers? Because Phase V is not specific - we will leave this open ended
  3. In cooperation with NGRREC and IEPA, NCSA will deploy a final version of a GLTG geodashboard for State of Illinois to be used for the Illinois Nutrient Reduction Strategy Plan.
    1. Related to Illinois Site - will release the Reduction Strategy Plan and Bi-Annual Report
    2. Final Version means have something go live in v3 of site - would include dashboard and narrative storyboards
    3. Is this part of current or part of Phase V - is this Phase 4?
      1. adding dashboard is Phase V
      2. This needs reworded
    4. Illinois site has been reviewed by IEPA and adjusted based on their input
    5. Would include links to live data
    6. Will help us define template for deploying other states
  4. In cooperation with NGRREC and up to three state agencies (in addition to Illinois), NCSA will deploy state specific GLTG geodashboards to be used for the respective states’ Nutrient Reduction Strategy Plan.
    1. Illinois and two states
    2. Some of features will be similar to Illinois
    3. Additional contextual data related to the specific state we will add
      1. Arkansas EPA will be partner - but it is a different name - Arkansas DEQ - Department of Environmental Quality (most states are this)
  5. In collaboration with the HTF and the 12 states represented within HTF, NGRREC will develop landing page/geodashboard for 2-3 sentinel sites in each of the 12 HTF states.
  6. NCSA and NGRREC will gather, identify, prioritize, and implement as agreed additional user requirements along with lessons learned from Phase 4 GLTG state and basin geodashboards.
    1. We are going to improve GLTG geodashboard v3 with lessons learned from Phase 4
  7. NCSA will modify geodashbarod v3 for GLTG based on the user requirements and implement design updates and cyberinfrastructure/performance updates as needed.
    1. Continue in Illinois and add two more states
    2. Overlapping with 6
    3. Can they be combined? yes
  8. NCSA will implement/test/finalize additional revisions to up to 7 storyboards.
    1. A couple storyboards for general and one or two for each state site?
    2. Do we have to put a number?
    3. Develop additional story boards for Main site and new states as they come on board
  9. NCSA will refine and finalize the repository page for computational models (tools) for water quality interpretation. The site allows users to test the models with the water quality data from GLTG. (We may want to clarify this- I was thinking we’d mostly show model outputs. I realize mostly we’re talking about Exploratory Analysis, but I think a discussion of what’s possible beyond that would be great)
    1. Show static model output - a layer that shows the APCF output or the SWAT Model
      1. introduction to statistical model
      2. catalog of models available
      3. come see an example of what the APCF has done - implemented somewhere
    2. Do you want user to run model on web site - Other models No
      1. McIssac's work - still pursue running (see below)
      2. Can this then translate to other states
    3. This is not the exploratory analysis page
    4. Change this to McIssac's Change Analysis - so users can test their data
  10. Within the repository page, in collaboration with Dr. McIsaac, extend data tracking to additional states. Preferred states would be those identified in #4 above.
  11. NGRREC and NCSA will continue to gather/survey the models/tools which could be possible for GLTG to host. Example data and executions will be collected for GLTG to test.
    1. shown in above catalog
    2. identify which is layer and which can be executable
  12. NCSA will work with NGRREC and Reid Christianson on data storage needs for GLTG and Christianson’s BMP work.
    1. Develop a user interface to submit BMP data by state
    2. Design and develop storage model
      1. data repository accessible for people to run model
      2. Reid's data has two parts - raw data from states and then he manipulated the data into a consistent framework (units, terms, etc.)
      3. Final data will be released for people to download and use
    3. Visualization of the output - chart or geospatial layer
  13. NCSA will work with NGRREC and Kaiyu Guan on ingesting and visual display of remote sensing data.
    1. contextual layer
    2. May need to investigate interface to investigate his data - it is temporal data
