The scientific use cases aim to carry out novel scientific research within the areas of biology, civil and environmental engineering, and social science by utilizing collections of uncurated and/or unstructured data through the DAP and DTS services constructed within Brown Dog which strive to enable scientists to more easily and reproducibly gain access to the information within these vast and growing collections. Though the three use cases will have their own unique goals they will all lay down the requirements, in terms of needed file format and metadata support, they require from Brown Dog and contribute and/or identify tools for inclusion into the DTS service. The result of this component will be a documented set of domain specific needs, a collections of tools preserved within the two services, and publications on the scientific work each use case carries out.
