Background

NCSA is developing the Great Lakes to Gulf Version 1.0 the following questions came up
- GIS data for the Mississippi River is available by state, What border states do we want to include in the base map? Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri?
- Considering the border states that we are showing, do we want to display the entire state?
- Do we want to include HUCS in version 1.0 to what spatial extent around the river?
- Jong made a good suggestion of noting that rivers, streams, even the Mississippi River will not be visible in a google map image (unless the GLTG viewer is zoomed in). Do we want to display Hydrography lines i.e. lines depicting the location of Rivers and streams? And to what extent do we want to display these Hydrography lines? State Wide?
- If we do project Hydrography lines, Jong suggested using data from the National Hydrography Dataset (http://nhd.usgs.gov/), lots of states federal agencies use the NHD as a foundation to build additional GIS layers off of.
