For the earthcube and ischool instances, we ran into a problem signing up users with the latest version(s) of ndslabs-startup.

Apparently, when working as an SMTP Relay, our ndslabs-smtp pod can send improperly formatted messages for e-mail verification.

We currently have two options (but are open to more):

1. Remove the dependence on the SMTP server from ndslabs-startup
2. Fix any possible formatting errors that can occur while sending the e-mail

This ticket is complete when one of the above options has been implemented, and this problem no longer plagues new Workbench instances using the default configuration.
